Continual framework updates
Each new release of the R4 Framework is checked against your site, file by file, before it is applied — so you get the improvements without losing anything made specially for you.
Hosting, Care & R4 Framework
Most bespoke websites are brilliant on launch day and quietly go out of date from then on. Ours are built on the R4 Framework — our own foundation, shared by every site we build — so security fixes and improvements keep arriving long after launch. Your site stays yours, looks like nobody else's and never becomes the forgotten one.
One foundation, kept current, under every site
It is the foundation we build every website on — the engine underneath the design. Because every site shares it, a security fix or improvement made once can be tested and rolled out to all of them, so a bespoke site gets the kind of continual updates you would normally only get from a big platform, without the templates, the plug-in roulette or the monthly per-user fees.
At a glance
The problem
Small business sites usually go wrong one of three ways. None of them shows up on launch day.
Built to measure, then left alone. Two years later its foundations are out of date and updating them is a project nobody wants to pay for.
Off-the-shelf sites lean on dozens of third-party plug-ins from different authors. Each one is another thing to update — and another way in for attackers.
Cheap hosting is fine until something goes wrong and nobody notices: backups that stopped, a certificate that expired, a server months behind on security fixes.
Outcomes
Scope
Five things that come with every site we build and host.
Each new release of the R4 Framework is checked against your site, file by file, before it is applied — so you get the improvements without losing anything made specially for you.
Our own add-ons — news, enquiries, team pages, testimonials, FAQs, galleries, events, newsletters, customer accounts, an online shop, bookings and ticketing — switched on when you need them.
Your site runs on servers we manage ourselves rather than on someone else's hosting resold to you. Security updates to the servers are applied automatically.
Your database and files are backed up every night, each backup is checked to make sure it really contains your data and a copy is kept away from the server — because a backup nobody has checked is only a hope.
We monitor the servers around the clock and record every change to them, so problems usually reach us before they reach you.
Is it right for you?
In detail
What “continual updates” actually means for a bespoke site.
Your design, your words and anything we build specially for you belong to your site alone. Underneath sits the R4 Framework: the engine that handles pages, security, sign-in, forms, speed and the admin you edit your site with.
That split is what makes updates safe. We can improve the engine without touching what makes your site yours.
When the framework improves, we prepare an update for each site and compare it against that site's own changes. Anything that would clash is resolved by a person before it goes anywhere.
The update is then checked — it must build and pass its tests — and applied at a quiet time. You can see what changed in plain English in your site's admin.
Every site includes our modules, switched off until you need them. Want to start selling online, take bookings, publish news or run an event with tickets? It is usually a matter of switching a module on and setting it up, not starting a new project.
Anything we build specially for one client and that others could use becomes a module too, so the whole set keeps growing.
The domain, the content and the code are yours. If you ever want to move to another developer or host, you can take the site with you — we would rather keep you by being useful than by locking you in.
No. The R4 Framework is our own, written in modern TypeScript. There is no pile of third-party plug-ins to keep patched, which removes the most common way small business sites are broken into.
No. Updates are to the engine underneath. Your design and content are left alone and anything that might affect them is checked by a person first.
We do. We manage our own servers rather than reselling someone else's hosting, so we know exactly how your site is looked after.
Yes. Every site comes with an admin where you can change the words, pictures and news yourself — and we are a phone call away if you would rather we did it.
Usually, yes. We will look at what you have and tell you honestly whether moving it, rebuilding it on the framework or leaving it where it is makes most sense.
It depends on the site and which modules you need, so we do not publish a price list. After a short chat you get a clear written quote, with hosting and care spelled out.
Free website audit
Get a free website health check: a written audit of your site and email domain — renewals, security, email spoofing, speed and AI visibility — read by a person before it is sent.
Book a short call and we will tell you honestly how it is holding up and what it would take to keep it current.
